“Maybe happiness is this: not feeling like you should be elsewhere, doing something else, being someone else.” – Isaac Asimov

Hi. I’m Debby. I’m a licensed clinical social worker.

I believe we heal when we listen to our bodies, since that is where our feelings, thoughts, memories, fears, and dreams live. I help clients notice sensations in their bodies and discover what their bodies may be trying to tell them. As clients learn to tune into their bodies and find ways to express their feelings and needs, they gain confidence in their ability to work through difficulty and take steps in the direction they want to go in.

Whether I’m working with a client using a modality such as art, music, writing, dance, or embodied movement and play, or simply sitting and having a conversation, the process unfolds in a similar way… I follow the client’s lead, help them listen to their bodies, and hold space for what comes up for them in a non-judgmental way. This process helps support the client’s self-exploration and self-discovery.

Over time, we start to identify patterns in a client’s behavior, interpersonal interactions, and emotional states. With a sense of curiosity, we notice and work through challenges that show up inside and outside the therapy room by building on the client’s strengths. This then becomes a ‘dance’ through which clients learn how to more effectively ‘dance’ through life and with others in their lives.

My training in expressive arts therapy, Sensory Motor Arousal Regulation Treatment (SMART), and dance/movement therapy allows me to help clients access what’s deep inside. When clients struggle to manage difficult thoughts or find their way, I integrate mindfulness meditation and other therapy modalities such as Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT).

I love helping parents find effective ways to support and connect with their child. I ask for feedback from clients and parents and use feedback to help inform the direction we take. If a child or family feel like they need more structure, feedback, or strategies from me, I find creative ways to make this happen, while continuing to allow the client’s natural process to unfold.
